Realtors like to tout the safety of a neighborhood when trying to sell a home. Real estate website Movoto.com has taken a bigger picture view of personal security and ranked America’s safest states. They used information from the 2010 U.S. Census and 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report that included:
•Murders per 100,000 people
•Violent Crimes per 100,000 people
•Property Crime per 100,000 people
•Total Crime per 100,000 people
The ten safest states in the nation are:
1. New Hampshire
2. Idaho
3. Vermont
4. North Dakota
5. Maine
6. Iowa (Tie)
6. South Dakota (Tie)
8. Wyoming
9. Minnesota (Tie)
9. Virginia (Tie)
